Vets, Depression: Returning From War To Fight New Battle

When Lamont Christian returned from war, he often felt angry, afraid and unworthy. Years later, Christian found himself living in a homeless shelter, a sign that time had not healed his emotional wounds.

He went to the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System for help, and there, he learned the root of his problems: he was suffering from depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and anger management problems. Now, he wants others to learn from his experience.

Transcendental meditation reduces student ADHD symptoms

The Transcendental Meditation technique may be an effective and safe non-pharmaceutical aid for treating ADHD, according to a promising new study published this month in the peer-reviewed online journal Current Issues in Education. People who are dissatisfied with medication start exploring meditation for ADHD treatment and for other conditions.

The pilot study followed a group of middle school students with ADHD who were meditating twice a day in school. After three months, researchers found over 50 percent reduction in stress and anxiety and improvements in ADHD symptoms.
